My name is Kristen Shannon. I am a recent graduate of American University’s School of International Service. I have a great passion for equity, particularly the progression of educational opportunities for women and marginalized ethnic communities across the globe.

During the Spring 2014 semester, I was blessed with the wonderful opportunity of studying abroad at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. The knowledge and cultural insights that I gained while in Durban gave me timeless jewels for my education and overall personal development.

This blog began as my attempt to document my spiritual journey as a woman of color traveling to the African continent for the first time.

Upon my return to the States, I realized that I could not remain silent on the social ills injustices that plagued humanity –  both at home and abroad. I’ve transitioned this blog from a travel blog to somewhat of a lifestyle/political blog. My goal is to share the views of a millennial womanist POC with my friends, family, and anyone else who might have the time to hear – or rather- read my transcribed brain waves.

Much peace to you and yours.

I love your blog Kristen!! Seriously, all the topics resonate with me so much. Maybe it’s because Barbara and Wanda taught us so well :p Hope you’re doing well!

    1. Thanks so much Luciana! I’m sure that that has something to do with it – we were taught by the best 😀
      I hope all is well.
